A safe place to share

"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the day drawing near."
Hebrews 10:24-25 (ESV)

Why Coaching or Debriefing?

It is important to us at FieldPartner that anyone who feels the need for personal connection should find it in our community.

That is why we have provided a Facebook group that is available to join for anyone who takes our courses. The objective is for us to be learners together. Why? Because research shows that we retain information far better if we can share it (and better still if we can explain it simply!), than if we keep it to ourselves! So that is our goal for anyone who comes on a learning journey with us.

In addition to fellowship and a learning environment, though, we also want to provide support for those who feel vulnerable and in pain from something they are going through, or ‘stuck’ over something that keeps dogging their steps. That is why we also offer debriefing and coaching to meet those further needs.

What is Debriefing?

Debriefing is simply a time-bound opportunity (about an hour) for you to reflect on a difficult experience or maybe to help you process a whole season of service. The debriefer is there to listen and to ask very open-ended questions, to which there are no right or wrong answers. They are merely intended to help you express some of your unspoken thoughts and reflect on your underlying feelings, whether positive or negative. It will be a totally confidential experience and no one else will receive any report about what you share. Hopefully by the end of the hour, the burden will feel less for having been shared and you will have some fresh perspectives on the recent past.

What is Coaching?

“Coaching is not about providing answers, but about asking thoughtful questions”.
Keith Webb in The Coach Model for Christian Leaders.

It is about empowering you, the coachee, to come up with your own solutions; it’s a process that is far more effective in creating change than trying to work with advice from others. The objective is not to go for total transformation all at once, but rather to look at habits, mindsets and limiting beliefs that need to change, and then to start taking definite steps towards changing them. We look at the past not to dig up painful memories, but to find hidden treasures and resources in our story that can help us to see things in another light, and then to do life differently. It is surprising how a little tilt of the prism can shed a rainbow over our history!

Our Coaches

We are pleased to offer two coaches who have many combined years of experience on the mission field.

Christine Paterson

Christine Paterson was brought up in a mission environment – both her parents served for over forty years as missionaries in Africa, where she spent her early years. Christine and her husband Ross have been involved in China ministry in various capacities over the past five decades. They have a heart for mission worldwide and are currently based in Taipei, working as mission consultants for a large church there, which benefits from their varied experience of cross-cultural work.

Christine's Coaching Packages

Option One

Four to six private sessions, where the coachee is encouraged to pick one issue in their life that they want to work on.

In a 1-1 session, the goal needs to be very clear and SMART (stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timebound) and the first whole session may be spent entirely deciding what that goal should be.

Cost: Although we usually charge for this, we are currently offering it for FREE.

Option Two

A maximum of 10 group sessions, where again each participant brings one main issue they want to see a change in.

In a group session, each member similarly has a clear and SMART goal for outcomes. However, there will also be some peer coaching involved, so each gains some skill in coaching as well as being coached. Ideally, each cohort would have about 12 members, or multiples of 3, for our group work.

Cost: Although we usually charge for this, we are currently offering it for FREE.
